from New Mexico, We'Wha spent six months in Washington, DC in 1886, and met President Grover
Cleveland.
We'Wha was born male but lived as a woman. Upon meeting her, President
Cleveland was never aware that the six-foot Zuni maiden was born male.
We'Wha
was an accomplished Zuni Weaver and potter. One of the anthropologists
close to
We’Wha described her as “the strongest character, and the most
intelligent of
the Zuni tribe.”
